Did you know that when you buy a CD from Amazon, that you get a digital copy of it, too? I found that out tonight when I was thinking about a Ben Folds song, and went to buy the MP3 on Amazon, thinking that maybe someone would show me how to put it on my phone later. (The song is There's Always Someone Cooler Than You, since you're dying to know.)
So I bought the song and then, not having anyone here at this moment to show me how to put it on my phone (and mock me in the process, I'm sure), I Googled "how to put a digital song on my phone" and I was told to get the music app from Amazon, so I did, and it said I had 499 songs in the cloud! What?! I looked to see what I have, and apparently every CD I (or anyone using my account) has ever bought from Amazon, is stored in the cloud!
I have no idea who bought some Andrew Lloyd Weber, but I bought that Patsy Cline album for Kim after she worked the soundboard at the theater for the Patsy Cline retrospective. The Monkees! The Beatles! George Michael! Lots of Ben Folds! Vampire Weekend! Cake! OMG! You know what's going to happen is that it will all sit there in the cloud, never being listened to, because I never listen to music unless I'm in the car.
Also? I already listened to the one song I wanted, so I'm good now.

Remember when I used to go to yoga classes 3 or 4 times a week? Well, I don't go that much anymore, and I can't really explain why. I started slowing down when I became a teacher, and I've just never gotten that momentum back.
I keep promising Shelley that I'll start going to the Monday night class at the Y with her, and then I never do it. I just sit there in my big chair, staring into the internet and talking to my cousin Diana on Skype, and I never leave the house.
Until tonight! I set an alarm to remind me to go, and I actually got up out of my chair and went to the class! Woot! Of course, I am going to have to work on this, to get the strength back for holding hard poses, but I can do it. I'm glad I went. Also, today I am thankful to Laura, who gave me a little push to go.
What I'm not thankful for? That all the places where I would want to pick up some food to take to work with me are closed before time for me to go to work, so I am eating microwave popcorn and string cheese for dinner at work tonight.

What I'm grateful for today:
What I'm knitting today: I'm about to start sock #2 of a pair of lovely cashmere socks for my friend Paula. The yarn is a beautiful color:

The yarn is Dream in Color Jilly Cashmere, and I'm sorry to have to tell you that it is splitty as hell. It is soft to the touch, and as I mentioned, it is a wonderful color, but it's really annoying to work with.

In which I am keeping up with the cool kids.
I haven't written anything here for like ... two years? A long time. But now Diana is writing her blog again, and Kim just started a blog, so you know I have to be like the cool kids and write mine, too!
What I did today - well, I went on a mile-long hike with Maddy, Rachel and Rich. Rachel is trying to get Maddy ready for a Girl Scout activity called the Thin Mint Rally or something like that, and it requires Maddy to walk a mile a day. I said I would do it, too, because I feel like I hardly ever get off of my own couch, so tonight was the first night of doing The One Mile Walk. We mostly talked about our favorite amusement park rides while we walked.
Also, I practiced the piano this evening, which segues nicely into what I'm thankful for today - I'm thankful that I am terrible at reading instructions, so I didn't practice the right song for Primary today, and I got to practice sight reading.
In other news, I went to Goodwill yesterday with Rachel to look for something she needed, and I found a fantastic coat for Kim to wear for cosplay. It's a really great steampunky long coat.

In which there are Shamrock Shakes!
Monday is not usually my day to pick up Maddy after school, because Rachel always has Monday off, so she picks her up. But Sunday when Maddy was leaving my house, I forgot that I don't pick her up on Monday, so I told her I would see her after school tomorrow (Monday)!
When I woke up today, it was 3 o'clock, so I jumped out of bed in a hurry to go pick up Maddy at 3:30, then I remembered that I don't pick her up on Monday. I called Rachel to remind her that it was her day to pick up Maddy, and she said that Maddy was really excited that I was going to pick her up after school, so I should do it!
So, not wanting to disappoint Maddy, I got dressed and told Kim if she went with me to pick up Maddy, I would take her to McDonald's afterward. So Kim went with me, even though she didn't really want to.
I parked in front of the school and went to meet Maddy at her classroom door. She was all cheerful and wanted to climb on the MOUNTAINS of snow that are piled up next to the street from the snowplows, and I told her we had to get in the car so we could go to McDonalds to get some fries, but Maddy said she didn't want to get fries.
So I put Maddy in the car, and got in and drove back home, because I didn't really want to go to McDonalds anyway, and Kim wasn't saying anything, as Maddy was babbling in the back seat about what they did in school that day, which was playing with some kind of green slime that was stinky. She kept telling us how stinky it was all the way home!
Until we turned on our street and Kim said, "Hey! I thought we were going to McDonalds!" and I said that Maddy didn't want to so I was just going to go home, and Kim started complaining that SHE wanted to go, and I TOLD her we were going, and that was why she came with me, and then Maddy said, from the back seat, "Calm down!"
And Kim went on griping about going to McDonalds, and Maddy said, "Calm down, there's no yelling in the car!" and Kim said, "And now I'm getting told off by a BABY!"
It was pretty funny, and I took Maddy home and sent Kim to McDonalds to bring us back some food, and it turns out Maddy was hungry after all, because she ate all her fries and her chicken McNuggets! And didn't give any to the dog, haha!
Oh, and also? When Kim came back with the food, she had a large green shake with her, and Maddy reached up and said, "That's mine!" and Kim was so annoyed because she had to share it with Maddy! She poured half of the shake into a glass and gave it to Maddy with a spoon.
So that's what happened to us today. Remember, There is no yelling in the car!

In which Maddy plays Jewelry Box.
It's cold here, so cold that it's all people can talk about, but I'm so tired of hearing about how cold it is! I don't want to talk about! It's just the weather, and it comes and goes and there's nothing we can do about it. However, I will just say this, and it hasn't got a lot to do with the weather outside, but it's cold down here in my office! I'm cold, and I've turned up the heat, but it wasn't helping, so I got an emergency wool shawl out of the drawer where I keep it, and I have that across my lap, and I'm feeling a bit warmer now. I love wool.
In other news, I just finished reading a book called The Mystery of Mercy Close, and it was great. It's by Marian Keyes, who is one of my favorite authors. It's another one of the books about the Walsh Family, but they aren't books about the whole family, each of them is a book about one of the sisters. This one is about Helen, who is a private detective.
One of the things I love about Keyes' books is how Irish they are. It's how they all speak, it's just casually there in the characters speech. Also, they are funny, and real, not the overdone slapsticky humor - I hate that.
So I just finished that one, and I'm going to start another one in a few minutes, called Sushi for Beginners, which is not about any of the Walsh sisters.
What I'm knitting today:
I'm still working on the black sweater for me. I work on it every night at work, and this weekend while I was off, I worked on it every day while I watched Freaks and Geeks on Netflix.
What I'm watching today:
Still watching Freaks and Geeks, but I've only got 3 episodes left. I'm enjoying it so much! When I'm done with it, I'll start watching Undeclared.
What I did today:
When I got up it was too cold to go out, although I needed a few things from the store, but then Laura texted me about going to yoga tonight, so I went with her and was glad I did.
When I got home, Rachel was having a breakdown, so we took Maddy and went out to get tacos. We ate the tacos back at my house, and then Maddy and I went upstairs to play Jewelry Box.
Jewelry Box goes like this; Maddy opens the Jewelry Box, which is a tackle box with necklaces and bracelets in it. She puts them on and pretends she is going to work, which is just going out to the hallway or into Kim's room or the bathroom, and then she comes back and takes the jewelry off, puts it back into the jewelry box, and gets in bed. She pulls up the ocvers, I turn off the lamp, and she pretends to sleep (for about 10 seconds) and then she says, "Wake up!" and I turn the lamp on and she gets up and gets dressed in the jewelry again so she can go to work. She does that over and over, and I just sit on the bed and watch, and turn the light on and off for her.
Tonight she had some amazing new 'jewels' including a shiny bead necklace with hot chili peppers hanging on it that Rich brought back from his business trip on the weekend. She loves it! It's so shiny!
It's the perfect game for us because she was busy and having fun, and I was just sitting on the warm bed, checking my email on my phone, and sneaking fun size Snickers bars out of a bag that Rich had left on the headboard of the bed when he unpacked from his trip. Maddy entertains me so much! I can just sit and watch her play all day.
Rachel was downstairs talking to Kim and Rich, so this time when Maddy went to work, she went downstairs to show them her jewelry. So she got a little extra exersize going up and down the stairs, which was good because it was another day of no school because of the weather and that kid needs to get out!
Also, when Maddy is playing Jewelry Box, she is just wearing her underpants. Because Maddy takes her clothes off when she comes to my house. She takes her clothes off as soon as she gets home, too, because Maddy doesn't want to wear clothes. It's a wonder that she stays dressed when she goes to school.

In which I am knitting, reading, and not cursing.
What I'm eating today:
Kim made pizza using some gluten free dough I bought at the grocery store in tubs, like cottage cheese. She couldn't find any pizza sauce in our cupboard (because I don't really like red sauce, and I never make pizza, so why would we have any?) so she bravely looked up a recipe on the internet and made her own sauce! From scratch! She's amazing.
What I'm reading today:
Faking It by Jennifer Crusie. I'm re-reading it because it's one of my favorite books by her, and the last couple of books I started that were free for the Kindle were pretty bad, so I went back to something I know I like.
What I'm knitting today:
I just started yet another sweater for myself. I've been trying to make myself a sweater since the weather got colder in the Fall, but have stopped after a few inches on every one of them. I start worrying about the sizing, or whether it will be too hot, or will it be long enough and will I run out of yarn. As a result, I don't have a sweater that I can just grab to put on. Very annoying.
I'm using a pattern I found on Ravelry, called Campanula. It is a top-down, v-neck, that will require no seaming when it's done. I have plenty of the yarn I'm using, which is Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in black. The pattern is one where you apply your measurements to some math-y computations (ugh), and come up with a sweater that is the right size. I am going to work on this sweater until it is done! I'm just going to finish it! That's right, I will have a finished sweater, darnit!
Why I am not swearing today:
Apparently Maddy used a bad word in preschool last week, and the teacher spoke to Ash about it after school. Rachel called and scolded me for teaching the baby bad language, and I amnot even going just going to mention here the time the baby calmly said 'Dammit' when she saw me drop a cupcake on the floor, frosting side down, a word that she learned from her father, thank you.
So we decided on some acceptable expressions of anger and/or frustration. The permitted words are 'Darnit', 'Bummer', and 'Papercuts'. I know, they are not as satisfying or funny as some of the other sentence enhancers, but that's all we get.
I'm going to go knit on my sweater now. Until it is done, darnit!
